2008 Sprint Rules & Specifications

The rules are subject to change in the better interest of racing or safety.
A sprint car is defined as a racing vehicle of single seat design built
upon a racing chassis and mounted on four racing wheels equipped
with safety hubs. There is no limit on wheelbase and any naturally
aspirated engine compartment shall be separated from the engine
by a firewall of suitable material. Car must be so constructed as to
withstand the stress of high speeds and equipped with a rear
bumper to facilitate starting. Rear bumper must be attached at all times.
Driver's Compartment
Roll bars must provide maximum protection, with suitable space
and head room in the driver's compartment. All bars must be
padded around driver. No open drive shaft. Arm restraints are
required. Bucket seats or equivalent installed, must be welded
or bolted to frame. Head rest is mandatory. All crash helmets
shall be approved by track officials, and helmets must be worn
by driver anytime car is in motion. Driver must wear safety
type rubber rimmed glasses or face shield.
Engines
The engine displacement must not exceed 410 cubic inches.
The displacement will be determined by pumping one or more
cylinders at random. The pump engine temperature compensation
and a 1% tolerance, will be final. Aluminum engine block will be allowed.
Exhaust
Headers must be designed and installed in a manner to minimize
fume and fire hazard to drivers and other competitors.
Tires
and Wheels
Tires
with excessive severe knobs or tread will not be permitted.
Approved wheel covers are allowed. Any conventional or racing
wheels and tires are allowed. No dual wheels.
Right
rear must be a Hoosier compound SC12, SC15, SCRD15, SC25, SC45. All other corners
can be tire and compounds of your choice.
Fuel and Ignition
Fuel cell is required, with bladder. Ignition switch should either be
toggle or push and pull and be easily accessible to driver.
Ignition switch is mandatory. Any type fuel pump may be used.
Also, pressure system, but must have shut off valve in reach of
driver. No nitrous type fuel additives are allowed. Must have
shut off valve at fuel cell. A 28 gal. fuel tank is recommended.
Hoods
Race cars must contain hood and be fully pained with bright colors.
All cars must have hoods in place during warm-ups and competition.
Wings
Aluminum or metal single air foil design with a maximum size of
25 square feet measured by length at the longest point, times width
at the widest point. Physical dimensions not to exceed six (6) feet in either
dimension at the longest point. Wing surface may not be hinged.
Maximum dimensions for front wings: 6 sq. ft. No double top wings,
no added air foil above top wing. Side panels must be a maximum height
of 30" and not to exceed more than four inches over length of wing cord.
For safety reasons, the bottom plane of the wing must be within 12"
of the front roll bar. No side wings. Metal wings only, 3" wicker bill on top
of wing. A maximum of 1" turn up on a 90° angle allowed at rear
center foil. Center foil must be one (1) piece. The deepest point
allowed on the top surface of the top wing will be 2 1/2" measured
from the top front wing to the front edge of the 1" turn up at the rear
edge (or to the rear edge, if there is no turn up). No car will compete
without a top wing on the car.
Brakes
All cars must have brakes in good working condition.
Steering
Any safe steering may be used
Clutch
None allowed
Shock Absorbers
Any amount and type of shock absorber allowed,
but must be in good working order.
Paint
Car numbers must be painted neatly on both sides of
car and on top and both sides of wing.
Safety
No car is eligible where the safety factor is considered
lowered or insurance coverage affected.
Miscellaneous
Nerf bars are required and front
and rear bumpers are required.
