Petock makes it two in a row at Clinton County Raceway Schilling, Kishbaugh, and Myers also grab wins
Mackeyville, PA – When the 2007 season came to a close Neil Petock found himself in victory lane for the Fall Shootout. Now knee deep into the 2008 season Petock is showing that it was no fluke as he once again found himself in victory lane at Clinton County Raceway. When the season started, Clinton County promoter Vern Wasson announced that the previous weeks winner would start no better than twelfth, with the idea of seeing new cars winning each week. With that, Petcock started behind a whole slew of healthy Shore Auto Parts Super Sprints. When the green flag flew front row starters Chuck Roan and Bobby Howard jumped out to a lead and battled for the top spot. Howard would eventually wrestle the lead away and start to build a sizable advantage. The first yellow flew on lap ten for George Suprick who had a right rear tire go down. The field then took off again for a six-lap run until Tom Wise had a steering failure and found both the outside and inside wall. The field would then take the green a gain until two laps later when Roan came to a stop on the backstretch with a right rear flat. This set the stage for a duel to the end as Petock had worked his way up from his twelfth starting spot right to the back bumper of Howard. The two pilots spent the next two laps battling side by side until Petock was finally able to clear Howard and cruise to victory lane. Howard would be forced to settle for second, with tenth place starter Blaine Heimbach turning in a nice run for third, Daryl Stimeling had a steady run for fourth, and Matt Miller rounded out the top five. Finishing out the top ten was Matt Heimbach, Andy Haus, George Suprick, Jeff Weaver, and Jeff Taylor.
The A&A Auto Parts Pro-Stocks got off to a rough and very scary start to their feature event with a crash that looked similar to “the big one” that’s seen at Talladega. As the cars came up to full song, a few cars made contact, and before it was all over eight cars were in a pile on top of each other with others receiving damage. The red flag came out before the cars even entered turns one and two as the safety crews were quick to get to the track to make sure everyone was ok. Chris Berry who is always a threat to win, was shaken up during the crash as his car looked like a pinball at times. Although there will be some very sore drivers this week, all of them escaped major injury. After the cleanup Ay Schilling and Denny Fourney started to do battle for the top spot. Schilling would get the advantage but Fourney ran right in his tire tracks. Fourney tried every way he could but just couldn’t get the run he needed to get by as Ay Schilling went on to take the checker. Following Schilling and Fourney was Cliff Berry third, Doug Minium fourth, and Mark Bitler rounding out the top five. Six to ten were Eric Barto, Arliss Rhinehart, John Bouse, John Myers, and Jim Berry.
The Ron Enders and Son’s 270 Micros were out in force as twenty-five made their way onto the 1/3 mile oval. Last years track champ Brian Kishbaugh, who has been shutout so far this year took advantage of his front row starting spot as he sped to victory lane. It wasn’t easy as the rest of the field stayed on his back bumper but no one could mount a charge to get around. The field did a great job of driving, as there were only two quick yellows for mechanical trouble. Following Kishbaugh across the line were Mick Schuckers, Doug Karlene, Scott Kishbaugh, and Mike Koelher. Randy Meyers led the next group of five with Glen Houtz, Jess McDivitt, Greg Steward, and Derek Johnson rounding out the top ten.
Randy’s Auto Repair FWD 4-cylinder division continued their streak of putting on a great show as the top three swapped the lead back and forth. In the off-season, Brad Myers built a new car but he hasn’t had the luck he had hopped for so far this year. Looking for that to change he brought out last years car and made it pay off, as he found victory lane for the first time in ’08. Following Myers across the line was Doug Darby, Jason Rafter, Dave Fink, Tim Luben, Chris Snyder, Jason McCauley, Brett Weaver, Cody Robbins, and Sam Creveling.
A special thanks to all the firemen and women that came out last night for
the “Fireman’s Appreciation Night”.
