Petock fends off challenge from horst to win Clinton County

Mackeyville, PA – Twenty-four high-powered Shore Auto Parts Super Sprints checked into Clinton County Raceway Friday night for what turned in to be another great night of racing. Things got off to a fast passed start as the field went green until lap 12 when Blaine Heimbach ended up looking the wrong way as a result of a right rear flat. Quick action by his crew had him back out in time to rejoin the field. A great battle was taking place up front as Neil Petock, Matt Horst, Bob Howard, and Chuck Roan Jr, all took turns looking for the lead. ASCS Patriot driver Chuck Hebing nicknamed “The Cobra” who raced from eighteenth to fourth would see his night come to an end as he stopped on the back stretch. Once the green flew the top runners would take off once again and Petock began to stretch his lead as they entered lap traffic. The yellow would fly once again on lap 23 for a spin by Chuck Roan. This set up a shootout between Petock and Horst. At the drop of the green both cars took off together as they put some distance between themselves and third place runner Howard. As the two entered the final corner on the checker flag lap Horst pulled up along side Petock for a drag race to the finish. In the first race of the season Petock lost the lead on the last lap to Heimbach but he was not to be denied this time as he beat Horst to the finish by a nose. Howard would end up third with Blaine Heimbach rallying to fourth and Patriot and ESS regular Mike Stelter turning in a solid run for fifth. Rounding out the top ten was Mike Walters, Matt Miller, Matt Heimbach, Scott Lutz, and George Suprick.

The A&A Auto Parts Pro-Stocks were next on the track for their feature event for what was once again an exciting feature. The Drivers were on the wheel for what almost turned out to be a flag to flag event. Terry Shedden looked to have the field wired as he took the white flag but as of late that has not been the place to be for any class at Clinton County. Tim Krape who won on opening came all the way from his twelfth starting spot to make the pass on Shedden coming off turn four to take the checkers. Denny Fourney had a solid run to third, with Keith Tebbs, and John Myers rounding out the top five. Jim Berry, Ay Schilling, Arliss Rhinehart, Doug Minium, and Scott Dorman would find their way into the top ten.

Randy’s Auto Repair 4-Cylinders would see twenty-five machines take to the track for their main event. After a couple of quick cautions the field found their groove and went the rest of the way to the finish. Last years track champion Jason Rafter would pick up his first win of year with Doug Darby and Dave Fink close behind. Sterling Kepner would grab fourth with Scott Shade taking fifth. Evan Palski, Colton Hoover, Chris Snyder, James Frye Jr, and Dustin Lucas would round out the top ten.

Racing kicks off once again this Friday night at 7:30 with gates opening at 5pm. On the card are the Shore Auto Parts Sprint Cars, A&A Auto Parts Pro-Stocks, Randy’s Auto Repair 4-Cylinders, and Ron Enders and Son’s 270 Micros. General admission is only $10.
