Crate Sportsman invade Clinton County Raceway

Mackeyville, PA – Friday, June 20th will see the very popular, and ultra competitive crate sportsman class takes their turn at tackling the tricky 1/3-mile clay oval. The sportsman division has become a premier class at the Woodhull Raceway with an average car count of thirty competing weekly. This division was formed with the idea of cutting costs and leveling the playing field for all the competitors. They are identical to a 358 modified other than the power plant, which is a sealed GM crate engine. Over the past few weeks a handful of teams have traveled to the track to run hot laps with all of them turning in quick lap times as they looked to find the perfect setup. As an added bonus track promoter Vern Wasson has given the drivers an extra challenge. If a driver can win back to back between Clinton County Raceway and Woodhull Raceway the following night they will receive a $1000 bonus. With a good setup and a little luck someone could be in for a huge payday.

The Shore Auto Parts Sprint cars will also be on the card as they look to continue their streak of close finishes. The point standings have really tightened up over the last few weeks as some of the top runners have found trouble. The heavy hitters are still running strong but as other teams begin to fine-tune their setups, it’s anybody’s guess on the outcome. The A&A Auto Parts Pro Stocks along with Randy’s Auto Repair 4-cylinders will also take to the track for their scheduled races.

Do to the interest from many Late Model teams, any team looking to get some practice on their non-schedule nights will be allowed to do so for the rest of the season with the exception of special events. The track will use the same format that has been used the last few weeks with fitting the cars in for track time.

Gates open at 5pm with racing kicking off at 7:30. General Admission for this event is only $12. Clinton County Raceway is located on Route 220 in Mackeyville, PA just off from the interstate 80 interchange. For more information check out the website at www.clintoncountyraceway.com.
